CROWN FARM SHOW REPORT – 10TH APRIL 2011
Firstly, we are very grateful to Chris and Janet Badger for letting us use their lovely facilities once again. Everything is always prepared perfectly and all their staff are very friendly and helpful.
We were blessed with the most glorious hot sunny day for our Crown Farm Show this year which proved as popular as ever with over 80 entries and classes running from 8.00 am until 6.30 pm. Everything ran very smoothly all day, even though at one point we made several changes to the running order to accommodate our riders – slotting them into spaces left with withdrawals, changing horses, and even adding a last minute entry in Class 5 – well done team !
Class 1 – Intro A was won by Alison Rivers and her lovely young horse Wienna, Carolyn Jewell and Cloud Nine came 2nd and Connor Kirby (9 years old) came third on his first outing with new pony Rosedale Vivaldi. We had two other very young competitors in that class : Mollie Rodgers and Florence Daly which is always very encouraging to see.
Class 2 – Prelim 1 was won in the restricted section by Emma Brooks and Morroe Solitaire and the Open section was won by Rachel Sturges and Frank in Sense. Claire Matheson was riding two very lovely young 5 years olds Luiz who came 2nd and Hala Bentley’s, From Heaven, who was 3rd.
Class 3 – Prelim 12 The Restricted section was won by Hilary Stratton on her 18 year old George. Claire Matheson won the Open Section with Hala Bentley’s From Heaven.
Class 4 – Novice 28, Hilary Stratton again won the Restricted Section with Anna Harter winning the Open Section with her lovely stallion Monty.
Class 5 was a combined class with Novice 30, Elementary 44 and Medium 63. We were very encouraged to see that we had more entries for the Elementary then the Novice. This class was won by Tammie Norton and Ballymax, with Elice Willett and Zephir 2nd.
The last class – Elementary 49/Medium 49 was won by Catarina Eriksson and Braveheart with Elice Willett once again 2nd.
Very many thanks to our judges Lynne Kerrison, Simon Laurens, Carol Hogg and Jane McGarel-Groves; writers Lauren Basson, Dawn Humphris and Helen Bodmer and our scorers Gill Howells and Hala Bentley.
Also a special thank you to Lindsey Stribling and her husband, Paul, who, as always helped with everything and were there for the 12 long hours ! Also to Catarina Eriksson who, along with a stream of friends from her yard, stewarded the warm-up all day.
Ted’s Refreshments supplied us all with plenty of tea, coffee and the obligatory “Bacon Roll” which helped keep up the moral of competitors and helpers alike.

In addition Sharon Gauld was there with her videoing equipment to video anyone’s tests if they so wished. This proved very popular.
