What a long but fabulous day!...with the first test ridden at 8.45, and fog rolling in, the first few competitors had a very atmospheric backdrop to their tests; I was reliably informed that the judge could see every movement! The facilities at Hill Farm were, as usual, ideal for our show, our very grateful thanks go to Paul and Carole Jeffery for their kindness in allowing us to use this wonderful venue
and a special thanks to them, from our judges and writers, for the roasty-toasty judging box complete with gas heater!
Class 5 had a beautiful sunset as its backdrop, as seen in the picture below showing the winning performance of Caroline Ogden, on her super horse Akbar, the last competitors of the day!

Firstly we would like to thank everyone for their patience and perseverance in organising their entries despite the postal strike. Almost, without exception, we overcame this adversity and the show was extremely well attended.
The fog cleared quickly as class one progressed, bringing glorious sunshine throughout the day. We had a very full first class, Prelim 16, judged by Deborah Cole (writer: Lesley Smythe). Hotly contested, the first class resulted with only 2.5% separating the top 8 competitors. Lizi Hamilton (Manhals Diamond) won the restricted section by a mere 0.5%, with Suzanne Morgan (Francesca) and Lisel Phillips (Boswell) coming joint second on 65%. The open section was won by Lesley Long (Bailey) with a score of 65%.
Class 2, Prelim 17, judged by Sue Harrison-Longmate (writer: Penny Gill), was won resoundingly by Claire Matheson, taking first and second place, on 76.6% (Cracker) and 73.75% (Bebop), an absolutely wonderful performance from this talented rider. Lizi Hamilton (Manhals Diamond) came third on 70% - one of her best scores to date! Jill Smith (Miss Marple) came 4th with a very respectable 66.6% that might, on other occasions, have won the class. The open section was won by Rebecca Tilton (73.75%) on her wonderful young horse (Valliant), with Lesley Long (Bailey) coming a close second on 72.9%.
Class 3, Novice 22, judged by Jo Ackland (writer: Joan Bell) was also won by Claire Matheson (Cracker) on 69.3%. Angie Handley (Our Martine) put in a wonderful performance to take second place on 67.5%. Third place went to Rachel Jennings (Callum) on a very credible 66.5%.
Class 4, Novice 38/Elementary 48, judged by D Simpson (writer: Leigh Edgler) was only narrowly won, despite a wonderful performance, by Karen Saunders (Captain Black/N38) with 62.5%, closely followed in second place by Tammie Norton (Ballymax/E48) on 62.41%. Claire Matheson, this time riding her own horse (The Tussler) came third with 59%.
Class 5, Elementary 58//PYO Medium and above, judged again by D Simpson (writer: Leigh Edgler) was won resoundingly by Caroline Ogden (Akbar) on 63.42%. Last to go in this class, their wonderful performance was sight to behold, especially with the backdrop of a beautiful sunset! Second place, on 60%, was taken by Claire Matheson (The Tussler). Lisa Mumford (Alfresco) came third with 57.81%; this wonderful old chap, owned by Jo Ackland, and now in his 20s, shows us how many wonderful years of competing can be enjoyed with our horses by keeping them fit and active! Tammie Norton (Ballymax) finished 4th, after a great performance, on 57.42%.
We hope you will visit S F Digital and take a look at the wonderful photographs taken on the day. I am sure, like many of us, you will find some images of yourself that will make you chuckle, but also a few to make you feel rightly proud.
The refreshments van was a welcome pit-stop for many, providing the most mouth-watering bacon rolls and burgers. They were very generous in their sponsorship of refreshments for our team of helpers, without which I feel many might not have made it through the long and tiring day!
As always, we had a great many wonderful helpers on the day, not all of them Isis members! We are, as ever, so very grateful to all those who were so generous with their time and efforts.
Our stewards, who so ably marshalled the warm-up arena: Amanda Irving, Louisa Baker, Linda Sammons (whose wonderful Toby was sadly missed on the day trust him to get out of work by going lame! We hope he makes a speedy recovery!), Jane Higgins, and Peter Hamilton.
The Daniels family deserve a special mention, they were wonderful. Steve, who is just the best Car Park Steward ever! you have a job for life! Tracey was tireless in her delivery of score sheets from the judges box to the secretary, and their daughter Lucy who not only rode in the Prelim tests but mucked in like a trooper. We look forward to welcoming Lucy, and her beautiful young thoroughbred (Ruby Tuesday), as a member soon we hope!
Our very grateful thanks and compliments to our judges and writers, who did a fabulous job; all the classes ran smoothly and to time. In addition, it is always lovely to see so many well deserved compliments, constructive criticism and encouraging remarks on the score sheets. It is great to know where we need to train and refine our skills!
Although our day started at 8am (first rider 8.45am) and finished around 7pm (last rider finished around 6.15) the day ran so smoothly and was a real delight. We have received several messages of thanks and praise for an enjoyable and efficiently run show
all thanks, again, to the whole team
we could not do it without you!
Lizi Hamilton
