ISIS MEMBERS SHOW, JULY 4TH 2010
Our annual rainbow dressage took place at Worton Park again, but this time without the heavy traffic and spooky building works which enlivened things last year! It was a wonderful fun day, with some amazing fancy dress (see David Morgans pictures, either on our website or at www.equinesinaction.com) and some good dressage.
Our judge, Jane Tolley, nipped over from Spain to officiate (well, not quite! We were lucky that our show coincided with one of her many trips back to England!) and she proved to be the perfect choice very supportive and positive, with something good and encouraging to say about every test.
This year, the teams were Gold, Silver, Spots, Stars and Stripes, which produced some very imaginative interpretations, with the prize for the best fancy dress going to Isabel Stubbs and Soloman Grundy, a vision in pink spots! Maggie Beresford, who always enters fully into the spirit of this show, ran Isabel close, but unfortunately Sid took against her glamorous gold beaded wig...
In Intro A, Vicky Randell (Gold) stole the show with her beautiful black German youngster, certainly one to watch for the future. He behaved very well, despite little show experience, and stood out in this class. It was good to see two established Isis members taking second and third places Sue Staunton and Caroline Hollier - we hope to see you at more of our shows!
Prelim 4 was won by new member Sarah Hall (Stripes), with our youngest new member, Olly Booth, close behind. Another new junior member, Lauren Stanley, was third.
Prelim 19 was the largest and hottest class, won with the highest score of the day by junior member Sophie McCormack (Gold) and her wonderful old horse, Free Spirit, previously competed so successfully by Ginnie Halliwell. Suzanne Morgan and Francesca scored well for second place, with Fiona Smiths beautifully-behaved grey Spanish stallion, Yo Cautivo, in third.
Sheena Grierson, here riding for Spots, won Novice 38, over Penny Gill and Wild Romance, with new member Sharon Latham and her handsome black Section D, Grovewestparc Shooting Star, in third.
Jill Smith and Miss Marple (Stars) were the sole entry in Elementary 53, and produced a high-quality test to deserve their first place!
I didnt do quite as well as last year in my division of members into teams this year, one team Gold dominated, winning with 281.43%, an average of 70.36%, thanks to Vicki and Sophie! The other teams were more evenly matched, Stripes (263.66%, average 65.92%) taking second place over Spots (253.92%, average 63.48%). Stars scored 248.01% (average 62%) and Silver scored 240.45 (average 60.11%).
We had hoped for a full mounted prize-giving for the first three teams, but had to make do with a couple of the winning horses and most of the prize-winners on their feet!
With the serious part of the day over, we fell upon the delicious food organised by Anne Luce and Lindsey Stribling. Catarina Eriksson, who had done a great job of selling raffle tickets, assisted young Olly in the prize draw. She is a very amusing lady, but was upstaged by Olly as he made a swift exit for personal reasons...! The raffle in aid of Redwings Horse Sanctuary raised £130 and a cheque for this amount has been sent.
Grateful thanks to writer Helen Bodmer, stewards SallyAnne Barton and Lauren Basson and gate-steward Colin Smith, whose help was invaluable in ensuring the shows smooth running.
We all had a great day. This annual event is becoming one of Isiss finest traditions! Hala Bentley
